A Busy July at Bannockburn

Hello Bannockburn Swim Club Members!

Sunshine, a long holiday weekend in the summer, and fireworks – does it get any better than this?  Happy Independence Day, everyone!  Here’s an update on events happening at the swim club:

Holiday Weekend Hours

The swim club will open from Noon – 7:30pm this Saturday, July 2 because of a morning swim meet.  Hours will be 10:30am – 7:30pm on Sunday, July 3rd and Monday, July 4th.  For details on all club operating hours go to the BSC homepage.

Crab Feast

Gather your swim club friends on Saturday, July 16th for a night of delicious merriment at the revival of the world famous Bannockburn Crab Feast!  In addition to some of Maryland’s finest crabs, on the menu that night will be cedar plank salmon, a delicious salad and corn.  There will also be an ample supply of beer, wine and other beverages included.  The fun starts at 7pm that evening.  Cost will be $40 per person.  If you are interested in participating, please send an RSVP email to Bannockburncrabfeast@gmail.com or sign up at the sheet at the lifeguard desk where you can hand your check to the guard on duty.  RSVP and check must be received by July 13 to reserve your spot.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Swim-a-thon

Bannockburn Swim Club is hosting a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on July 17th.  All swim club members are invited to participate!  Swimmers are already collecting donations and will be doing so through the event date.  All of the donations go to LLS whose mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma as well as improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

If you are interested in supporting this event with a donation go to our swim club’s fundraising page: http://events.lls.org/pages/nca/Bannockburn.   You can also make a donation directly to a swimmer by making a “pledge.”  You can pledge an amount like $0.50 per lap, and then after the swim-a-thon that swimmer will report to you how many laps they swam in the event so you can make your donation.
If you are interested in participating or have questions please contact Malena Lair Ferrari (malenal@comcast.net ) or Sarah Herberger (sarah.herberger@lls.org).

Friday Food Trucks

Our weekly schedule of Friday food trucks continues with Linda’s Luncheonette pulling up tonight (July 1.)   Linda’s will be serving by 5pm.  Trucks are scheduled for every Friday through the end of July.  For a full schedule, please visit the BSC website calendar.

Notice for Parents of Young Children

If your young child is not potty trained, please make sure to consider the rest of the membership as your youngster makes his/her way in and out of the pool and around the pool grounds.  We’ve had a string of unfortunate accidents of late and in several cases parents didn’t alert pool personnel nor help with clean-up.  Children who are not fully potty trained must wear snugly fitting swim diapers and protective pants, and may not use the largest of our three pools (may not use the lap pool.)  This is our swim club – let’s keep it an enjoyable and sanitary place for everyone.

Adult Stroke Clinics

Are you an adult swimmer seeking variety, excitement and improvement in your swim routine?  Our next adult stroke clinic is Tuesday July 5th at 7pm.   If you have questions about the Adult Stroke program or fees please contact Meredith Griggs at mmgriggs@gmail.com.

Water Exercise Classes

Marianne Ross’ popular water exercise class continues on a twice per week schedule.  The class includes aerobic, strength, flexibility, and balance exercises both in shallow and deeper water.  The class meets Mondays and Thursdays from 10:30am to 11:15am and is open to all members at no cost.  Class will be held as scheduled this Monday July 4th.  Contact Marianne with any questions at cinthe@verizon.net.

Was that thunder I heard…is the pool closed?

Would you like a heads-up when the pool is closed due to weather or other unexpected circumstances?  The club offers a text alert service that allows for notification in these circumstances.  If you are interested in receiving such alerts you can sign up by texting “bburnpool” (no quotation marks) to 781-728-9542 to opt-in to the system.
