Registration now open for Summer 2017

Go to the “Members” section of the website to register for 2017.

In case you missed it last summer, we have lots of great activities happening throughout the season including movie nights, a crab feast, food trucks, picnics, pot lucks, a swim-a-thon fundraiser, adult stroke clinics, water exercise classes, swim meets and dive meets as well.  There is a lot of fun to be had for all ages and we’re always open to new event ideas!

To stay on top of all the events and to receive our e-newsletter, make sure we have your current email address at  Click on “Members” and “Manage Account” and be sure we have an email address for all members of your household who want to be kept abreast of swim club happenings.

We are continuing the membership policy that we adopted last year -– one already long in place at several neighboring community swim clubs.  Applications for Permanent Memberships will receive priority over all returning Summer Memberships. The club will consider all applications for Permanent Memberships from both returning summer members and waitlisted applicants, before determining how many Summer Memberships will be available.  Last year our club had a membership wait-list throughout much of the summer.

Returning summer members are encouraged to apply for a Permanent Membership in order to ensure a spot for this summer.  Once all applications for Permanent Memberships are exhausted, we will accept applications for summer memberships if spaces are available.   This will be after the March 17deadline mentioned below.

Online registration is now available at  It is open for

  • Permanent members – both active and inactive – and new permanent member applicants (can be new to the pool or prior summer members who want to switch to permanent)
  • New applicants can apply to the pool online as well.
  • Those who wish to change to permanent membership (strongly encouraged).

If you are already on the pool’s waitlist and have paid the $50.00 application fee there is nothing further to do for a summer membership only.

If you have membership registration questions please contact Membership Chairperson, Claire Kelly by email at  If you prefer to mail in your membership form and check, you can download the form from the swim club website and mail to Bannockburn Pool, PO Box 376, Glen Echo, MD 20812.

Permanent Members
Regardless of status in 2016, by Friday MARCH 17 all Permanent Members mustconfirm their intent to be Active or Inactive  for the 2017 pool season by: (i) registering online or (ii) sending in the membership form.

Inactive permanent members will be assessed a $50.00 administrative fee in lieu of dues. This can be paid online or by check (mail to the PO Box listed above). If an inactive member does not pay the fee by the due date, it will be deducted from the member’s bond amount, and will need to be paid before to become Active again.

If you do not indicate your 2017 Permanent Membership status by March 17 your membership slot will become available to other applicants, and your application will be subject to late fees if there is space still available. If you do not secure a slot by the registration deadline, your membership will change to inactive status – you will be unable to use the pool for the 2017 season and will be assessed the $50.00 administrative fee.

If you changed to Inactive status in 2010 (prior to the pool renovation) you will need to pay the increase in the bond ($650) to  return to Active status.  If you elect to redeem your existing Bond, we will refund the amount when an eligible buyer has been found, in accordance with the Bylaws.

  • For the 2017 season there will be no charge for infants born after January 1, 2017.
  • Each membership household must include at least one dues-paying adult.
  • Non-swimmers who will use pool facilities must be included. Parents who alternate taking their children to the pool must both be included on the membership card and in the dues calculation, even if they do not plan to use the pool facilities at the same time.

Registration Late Fees
For payments not received by the deadline of March 17, 2017 the following late fees will be due:

  • $20 if full payment is received after March 17 and by April 15
  • $50 if full payment is received after April 15 but before May 1
  • $100 if full payment is not received by May 15

Please pay on time.  If you have to delay your payment, please add the late fee to your dues.  If your payment is late and no late fee is received, you will not be able to use the pool until the late fee is paid.

Cancellation of Membership Due to Nonpayment
The Club’s bylaws allow the Board – after official notification – to cancel a membership if dues or fees owed are overdue by 90 days or more.  A copy of the bylaws is available on our web site.

Swim Team – Go Dolphins!

The Bannockburn Dolphins Swim Team would like to welcome back all members of the 2016 team and invite all members’ children ages 5 to 18 to join us for another summer of fun and excitement in 2017.  Our swim team is all about fun with girls and boys competing in their own age groups, hoping to improve their swimming skills, and, most importantly, making friends and memories.

Returning head coach Malena Lair-Ferrari will lead the team again this season.  The Dolphins will practice in the afternoons Monday through Thursday between 4 and 6:30 PM beginning May 22nd with the season running through the last few days of July.  Morning practices begin the first Monday MCPS is closed and are held weekdays between 8:30 and 10:30 AM.   Swimmers are encouraged to attend both AM and PM practices once school is out.  Meets are held on Saturday mornings and Wednesdayevenings.  A full meet schedule and details on swim team sign up will follow by May 1st.

To accommodate the wide range of experience among our 8 & under swimmers, we have a pre-team program.  Special pre-team practices will provide more attention to younger swimmers at the early stages of their development.  We hold special pre-team practices in the afternoon four days a week for a half-hour.  Pre-team practice will start in early June.

Contact Shelley O’Brien, the swim team representative at with any questions.

Dive Team – Join us for our fourth great season!

Bannockburn’s Diving Dolphins look forward to their 4th season competing in the Montgomery County Dive League. Our numbers continue to grow, and our divers continue to mature, increase their skill levels, and (slowly but surely) move into those all-important (and formerly sometimes empty) 13+ age group events.

For many of our divers, Bannockburn Diving is all about fun and learning an exciting and safe new sport – we have lots of younger divers and welcome all members ages 6-18 who are comfortable in deep water, to join us. We’re also starting to build a group of divers who are advancing to higher levels and success in summer league and winter diving meets. In 2016, many of our divers went to Divisionals, and several advanced to the All-Star meet. We’ve had three years of great coaching, and looking forward more.

We will be sending out specific instructions for team registration in the Spring.  Practice starts just after Memorial Day, and will normally be held MondayFriday, 6;30-7:30 pm for younger divers and 7:30-8;30 pm for others.  The first meet is June 11th, regular season ends mid-July, and the All-Star meet is July 27-28. See this link to MCDL for schedule specifics:

Please contact Dive Rep Larry Kessner with any questions.
