Who’s Who at the Pool
What is the pool manager’s job? A lot of things. She supervises and schedules about 20 lifeguards; maintains the pool, constantly checking on safe levels of chemicals; and handles emergencies or injuries. Deanne Lewis, 19, this year’s manager, is highly qualified to take on these roles. She says she’s excited to have this job, her first as a full-time manager, and names as her goals “to keep summer safe and to have the least number of injuries possible.” Aside from having her pool operator’s license, Deanne worked as a lifeguard for five years—three at Merrimack and two at Bannockburn— before serving as our assistant manager in 2017. She earned Red Cross certification in CPR and first aid and has been re-certified three times in lifeguarding. Deanne is also acquainted with the rigors of diving, having dived for Merrimack. Apart from pool life, Deanne studies at Penn State, where she will be a junior majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She hopes to become an audiologist. We are lucky to have a manager with Deanne’s qualifications and look forward to supporting her in her new position. Welcome, Deanne!

Memorial Day Activities

Parade
Please join us in the parking lot of the Bannockburn Swim Club at 3:00 pm for our second annual Memorial Day Parade. Children are encouraged to decorate their bikes, scooters, wagons, strollers, or other rolling vehicles in patriotic colors – red, white, and blue.  We will have prizes for the best decorated wheels.   Friends and neighbors of pool members are most welcome to join the fun as we loop around the neighborhood streets surrounding the pool.  And best of all, King Neptune will lead our glorious procession! But we need parent volunteers as street marshals to ensure safety.  Please sign up here.

BBQ
Following our parade, about 4:00 pm,  join us for the Memorial Day picnic. Grilled burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, chips, watermelon, and drinks will be available until the food runs out.

Jello Eating Contest
Ah, jello.  How can you not love jello?  During our Memorial Day BBQ  we will have a jello-eating contest for children of all ages as well as brave adults.  They will be placed in age categories to level the playing field. Prizes will go to the top three winners in each category.  The contest will begin at 5:00 pm at the picnic tables near the grills at the back lawn of the pool.
