The Week Ahead – July 15

Dear Bannockburn Swim Club Members,

We are more than half way through the season.  Lots of fun activities scheduled this coming week.  Read ahead….

Food Options This Week

Bannockburn Pool is famous for its gourmet food offerings.  Most of these small, family-owned businesses are still recovering from huge financial losses during Covid.  Please consider ordering from them on their visits, rather than bringing your own, to make it worth their while.

Sunday, July 17 (for all below events)

Timber Pizza 4-8 pm

Timber Pizza is back by popular demand.  Pre- Ordering is open now here.  Walk up orders also available but pre-ordering advised since they sold out early last time.  Timber‘s pies cook extremely fast (90 seconds) and are all 10 inches and made fresh on-site. They are a “meal for one or snack for two”. The Bentley is their #1 seller and the Green Monster is sure to satisfy any veggie or pesto lover.   They also have Vegan and Gluten Free pizza offerings.

Live Music in the Lot – Freddy Gang 5:30 – 7:30 pm

Freddy Gang is the first of seven free live music events planned in the parking lot this summer.  Grab friends and neighbors, plan dinner, bring lawn chairs, and soak up the summer vibes together! Freddy Gang is an up and coming pop/rock group composed of four former Whitman grads: Gideon Helf (former Dolphin and swim coach), Eli Blanks, Joseph Kaplan, and Josh Lieberman. They met in high school through the music and drama programs, and formed Freddy Gang during the Covid quarantine. Their influences span from Wilco and Joni Mitchell, to The Beatles and XTC. You can hear their debut album on any streaming service you prefer.  To listen to one of their songs listen here or here.  Most of the parking lot will be closed for the concert so please park on nearby residential streets and walk down, or better yet walk or bike!

Bike Tune Up & Repair Pop Up 4-8 pm

Speaking of biking, Tom Mearns, home from college, is ready to help you get your bikes ready to ride for summer!  He’ll be tuning bikes and doing quick repairs at the lot from 4 – 8 pm.  You can schedule a time with him by sending a text or email (thomasjobservice@yahoo.com or 202 427-6801). He’ll also take walk ups if his schedule doesn’t fill up.  He charges $45 for a standard tune up and accepts Venmo or cash.  (He has waived his @ home service fee since he will be providing this service in one central location).  Tom looks forward to meeting eager cyclists of all ages Sunday.

Free Adults Level 1 Pilates Class – Mondays 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Meet us in the grassy part of the pool grounds near the grills @ 6:30 pm.  Bring a yoga mat and towel or two towels if you don’t have a yoga mat. All skill levels most welcome, even first timers!

Thai Tuesday Restaurant Delivery – July 19 6:00 – 6:30 pm

Farmsook Thai restaurant will be making a delivery from 6 to 6:30 . Menu can be seen here.  Pre-ordering will open late on July 15. Deadline to order is on day of delivery @ noon.  You can choose from a variety of delicious options, such as Pad Thai, Panang Curry, and Siamese Beef.  Most dishes can also be made vegetarian or vegan.  One of their best sellers is their signature duck rolls.

Parents vs Kids Dive Meet, Thursday July 21 @ 6:30 pm

Come and join us for this second annual throw down as a spectator or participant!  Parents vs Kids!  Parents, please consider participating and showing your best moves, or belly flop, off the diving board.  Following the dive competition, there will be a game of BINGO.  Everyone most welcome.

Guest Passes and Party ReservationsPlease buy guest passes in advance here.  We have many members bringing in guests when they have a negative guest balance.  This causes more work for us volunteers to follow up to get payments.  Guest passes never expire and can be carried over to future seasons and refunded when you leave the pool.  And if you wish to host a party of 10 or more guests, please fill out the party request here.

Last Call for Lost and Found
Our lost and found near the baby pool is overflowing with towels, water bottles, swim suits, sunglasses, shoes and clothing.  Please check it out and see if you’ve left something behind. Anything not collected by July 17 will be donated to charity.

Thank you.
Your Volunteer Board of Directors
