The Week Ahead – Aug 12

Dear Bannockburn Pool Members,

We hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather — we are getting a well-deserved break from the DC humidity! The weekend looks lovely as well, so do read ahead for our pool updates!

Adult Swim Breaks & Closing Time

A few members have been wondering why we have special “adult swim” time, especially when it’s quiet or there’s not a lot of people at the pool.  Here are some of the reasons we have adult swim at :45 on the hour.
  • It forces kids to take a break and helps reduce drowning.  It helps parents get them hydrated, reapply sunscreen, and generally lets them rest a bit.
  • Adults have the opportunity to get into the pool when it’s quieter.
  • It gives lifeguards a bit of a break from their jobs and regain their focus
Speaking of blowing the whistle.  It is getting darker earlier now.  Lifeguards will be blowing the whistle at 7:45 pm daily to allow families to pack up, use the restrooms with a target to be out of the facility by 8 pm.  Lifeguards need to stay behind to clean so we would really appreciate your cooperation in leaving no later than 8 pm.

Upcoming Food Events

Bannockburn Pool is famous for its gourmet food offerings.  Most of these small, family-owned businesses are still recovering from huge financial losses during Covid.  Please consider ordering from them on their visits, rather than bringing your own, to make it worth their while. Check the calendar for the upcoming food events in the weeks ahead.

Bun’d Up Korean Food Truck – Saturday, Aug 13 4:00 to 8:00 pm
Menu and online ordering can be viewed here. Pre-ordering appreciated but they’ll accept walk up orders. Their best sellers are the Pork Belly Bun, Mushroom and the Korean BBQ Beef rice bowl. They’ll also be offering a kids bowl (Choice of Protein, White Jasmine Rice, Cucumber Kimchi, Pickled Onions and Scallions & a choice of Sauce).

Foodhini Delivery – Tues. Aug 16 5:30 – 6:00 pm
Foodhini is a meal delivery service featuring Ivorian, Laotian, Eritrean, and Afghan cuisines from immigrant chefs with powerful backstories – bios of all these women chefs are also available to read on Foodhini’s website. You can order anything on their website, and you can even filter for gluten-free, halal options, keto, vegan, and vegetarian dishes!  Many of their dishes freeze well too if you want to enjoy at a later time.   After you add your items to the cart, at checkout select Pick Up (not delivery!) and list Bannockburn on Aug 16.  If you have any questions or difficulties, please contact Brian @ Foodhini via email info@foodhini.com or by phone at (202)734-3855 option 2.

Live Music in the Lot –  Sat Aug 13, 5:30 – 7:30 pm
Come hear Djangolaya in the lot from 5:30 – 7:30! Channeling the musical styles of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, Djangolaya is part French cafe, part New Orleans jazz, and part Latin nightclub. Check them out at: Djangolaya.com. Band members Bannockburnian Jeanine Greene, James Key, Charlies Schueller, Tom Mclaughin, Suzanne Gekker, and Jason Gekker will delight you with their tunes.  Most of the parking lot will be closed for the concert so please park on nearby residential streets and walk down, or better yet walk or bike!

Have a wonderful week ahead!
