The Week Ahead – August 19

Dear Bannockburn Swim Club members,

Times are about to get hectic with the kids going back to school.  What better time to come to the pool to unwind, detach, and connect with family and friends.  Read a book, look at the woods, chat with your friends, buy an ice cream. And of course jump in the water!

Who’s Who at the Pool – John Noble

John Noble placed 4th in his 85-89 age group at the USA Triathlon’s National Championship Sprint Competition on August 7, 2022, in Milwaukee. Sprint distance is 1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike, and 3 mile run. His training included lessons from Melania, early bird swimming, and twice a week water aerobics classes with Marianne Ross.  He will be happy to correspond with pool members who are interested in the sport (johnanoble@mac.com).

Reminder – Buy Guest Passes in Advance! We have many members bringing in guests when they have a negative guest balance in their account. This causes more work for us volunteers to follow up to get payments. Please ensure you purchase guest passes in advance here. Guest passes never expire and can be carried over to future seasons and refunded when you leave the pool.

Upcoming Food & Music Events

Bannockburn Pool is famous for its gourmet food offerings.  Most of these small, family-owned businesses are still recovering from huge financial losses during Covid.  Please consider ordering from them on their visits, rather than bringing your own, to make it worth their while. Check the calendar for the upcoming food events in the weeks ahead.

Friday (August 19) El Cumpa Chilean Street Food Truck 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Meet the newest food truck in town! El Cumpa is the only Chilean Food Truck in the DMV area serving authentic and fresh Chilean cuisine.  They will be offering their homemade empanadas and sandwiches and look forward to introducing Chilean culture to our neighborhood. Menu can be seen here.  Send your advance order and preferred pick up time to  elcumpachileanfoodtruck@gmail.com. Tomás Gutierrez moved here 4 years ago with his wife Jessica, aspiring to own his own food truck, after working for one of the best food truck businesses in Washington DC. After missing his food from back home in Chile, he and his wife decided to open the very first Chilean food truck in the DMV area. Tomás and his wife are very excited to share their unique and delicious cuisine from Chile to the community. One of his most popular items is Pino (beef) Empanadas but everything is delicious!

Live Music in the Lot –  Friday, Aug. 19  5:30 – 7:30 pm

Lockhouse 11 is a band composed of 4 rising seniors from high schools around the DMV: David Smith, Saahil Rao, Milan Chander, and Eleanor Ohm. They started talking about forming a band in 8th grade, and finally got around to it their junior year. They perform mostly covers of classic rock songs, with their love of the Beatles, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Rush evident in their song choices. They hope to continue making music and writing their own in years to come.  Most of the parking lot will be closed for the concert so please park on nearby residential streets and walk down, or better yet walk or bike!

If you miss this weekend’s free music concert, we’ll have two back to back next weekend. Stay tuned for more info or check the calendar for more info.

Have a wonderful week ahead!

Sincerely,Your Volunteer Board of Directors
