Frequently Asked Membership Questions

General FAQs

What forms of payment are acceptable for BSC dues and fees?

We ask that all payments be made via credit card through bannockburnpool.com.  If you require a different form of payment, please note that a $30 convenience charge will be added to your invoice, due to the increased administrative burden.  You can email info@bannockburnpool.com to set up arrangements.

How do I change my member contact information (i.e. home address and email address)?

Go to the “Members” section of the website and then click on “manage account.”

Does BSC offer any reduced dues for seniors?

Yes. Permanent members who have one or more adults over the age of 65 as of Memorial Day weekend qualify for a $115 discount on their annual dues. Please check the Senior Discount box when completing your registration.  We do not offer this discount for temporary summer memberships.

Do I have to count my nanny or babysitter who goes to the pool with my children as a household member when calculating dues?

Yes, if they are a current employee and will use the pool’s facilities – even if they’re not swimming – they must be counted as members. This includes housekeepers, au pairs, grandparents, and babysitters.   For an occasional babysitter who is not an ongoing helper, then a guest pass should be used for them to enter the pool.

I don’t plan to swim. Do I still need to pay membership dues?
Yes, all adults accompanying children, even if not swimming, are expected to be dues-paying members. Minor children aged 18 and under cannot be the only dues-paying members on any accounts.

Can I add a neighbor’s child to my account if they’ll be coming to the pool often with us?
No, if members try to add non-household members to their accounts, we consider this a violation of our rules and these members could be asked to leave the club. Neighbors and friends should be brought in as guests.

Can I add my adult children and their kids (my grandchildren) to my membership?

No, if these family members are not living in your home they should not be added to your membership. Rather, they should be brought to the pool as your guests, or alternatively apply for their own household membership.

I have a baby; do I count him or her in membership calculations?

It depends on when they were born.  For any infants born after January 1 of the current swim season year, there is no fee.  But infants born before this date should be counted as a family member.

Can I add my ex-husband or ex-wife to my membership if he or she takes our kids to the pool?

Yes. Any person who needs to access our pool on a regular basis must be added to your membership, even if they are not swimming.

We will be renting our house out this summer.  Can my renters use the pool?

Yes.  Please send an email to info@bannockburnpool.com to temporarily transfer your membership to your tenants.  Depending on their family size they may need to pay an increased fee.

Can I take guests to the pool?

Yes, any members – permanent, summer, or late summer – are welcome to invite guests, as long as there are no more than ten, for a fee. Prices are

    • weekdays for all ages is $5
    • weekends and holidays for all ages is $10

(weekends are considered Saturday and Sunday)

How do I make a reservation for a party?

Please check out the Party Reservation tab on our website.  Reservations are required if you plan to host 10-25 people.  We ask that you contact us at least three weeks before your event so we can plan accordingly.

I’ve heard wonderful things about your swim and dive teams.  How can I find out more information?

Please check out the swim and dive team sections on our website.   For our swim team, children can start as soon as they can swim one length of the pool unaided.  Beyond practices and meets, there are many social activities at the pool.  Swim team is a great way for adults and children to meet other pool members. Permanent and temporary summer members are eligible to join the swim and dive teams. Late summer members are not.

I have a suggestion or complaint.  Who do I send this to?

Please send an email to info@bannockburnpool.com.   A Board member receives all emails to this account, and we welcome all questions and feedback.

Permanent Membership FAQs

Who is a permanent member?

Permanent Membership is conferred through the payment of a partially refundable bond.  As of January 2024 the bond is $2,000, of which $1,200 is refundable.  As a Permanent Member you are guaranteed swimming privileges every year and have the right to vote on major decisions which affect the pool. You will pay annual summer dues, which are set by the Board of Directors at a discounted rate.

The 2024 Permanent Member season dues are $400 for the first adult immediate family member residing in your household and $165 for each additional immediate family in the household using the pool, including caregivers.

The fee to maintain your membership but be inactive for the summer is $200 and is limited to three consecutive seasons.  After three inactive seasons, the member must either become an active member or redeem their bond.

Season dues not received by the deadline are subject to a $100 late fee.

Permanent members residing within an area bounded by River Road, Goldsboro Road, MacArthur Boulevard, the Cabin John Parkway, and Booze Creek, or within the Town of Glen Echo, may, when they sell their homes, transfer their memberships to the buyers of their homes. The new owners will need to pay for any inactive fees on your account, plus the difference of the current permanent membership bond of $2,000. Note that new owners will only have $1,200 of the bond refunded due to the new pool policy instituted in 2024.

We will gladly welcome new Bannockburn residents!  This can be an attractive perk of buying into our wonderful community!

Who is an active permanent member?

An active permanent member is a permanent member household that has completed the registration and paid the dues in full for the current year.

Who is an inactive permanent member?

An inactive permanent member is a permanent member household that has neither completed the registration nor paid the dues in full for the current year.

Permanent members cannot be inactive for more than three consecutive years. These members will be refunded their permanent membership fee minus any inactive fees not paid once they reach being inactive three years.

Are there any costs if a permanent member becomes inactive?

Yes – there is a $200 annual administrative fee for inactive permanent members.

I am no longer able to use the pool.  How can I get my permanent membership fee refunded?

Please send an email to info@bannockburnpool.com with your mailing address.  If there is another family ready to take your membership slot, we will mail your refund (minus any inactive fees) promptly.  But there may be a delay if we have already closed our registration of new members (usually by the end of March).

Does my permanent membership accrue interest?

No, interest does not accrue.  When you return your permanent membership, you will receive the amount of the bond you paid, minus any non-refundable portion and any inactive fees accrued and unpaid, plus the value of any unused guest credits in your account.

Becoming A Permanent Member
The cost of purchasing a Permanent Membership is currently $2,000, of which $1,200 is refundable when the membership is given up and the pool finds an eligible buyer for the membership. This is a one time cost for each permanent member household.  In addition, annual dues and assessments are set by the Board of Directors and due no later than February 15th of each year.  New memberships are offered in January and February before the swim season opens.  Memberships can be given up at any time.  Please note that obtaining a refund when a membership is given up is dependent upon the pool finding an eligible buyer for the membership.  In the past,  there has been little or no wait to finding such buyers (and issuing a refund), but that is not guaranteed in the future.

What is the process for becoming a permanent member?

Priority for permanent membership is given to applicants who reside in the original Bannockburn sub-division followed by the adjacent areas, as well as temporary summer members who have been members for at least two seasons.  You can submit an application for membership – available in the “Members” section of this website— at any time.

Temporary Summer Membership FAQs

What is a temporary summer membership?

A temporary summer membership is a seasonal membership that coincides with the pool’s operating season. Temporary summer memberships are not guaranteed from year to year and are offered a spot once the permanent members have been given an opportunity to sign up. You can submit an application for membership – available in the “Members” section of this website— at any time. Temporary summer members are eligible for swim and dive team participation.

What is the process for becoming a temporary summer member?

You can apply in the “Members” section of this website at any time.  There is a one time application fee of $50.

Can I apply for permanent and temporary summer membership at the same time?

Do I have to apply for the waitlist every year?

You will need to pay an annual fee of $25 to stay on the waitlist, but you only need to apply once.
