Dear Bannockburn Swim Club members,

Summer is flying by and we wish many of our kids going back to school this Monday the best of luck.  Starting next week our operating hours will change.  We also have a fantastic weekend packed with fun-filled live music concerts and food trucks. That’s why everyone is calling our pool the cool pool!  Read on….

Revised Hours Beginning This Weekend & August 29

Effective August 29, our pool hours on weekdays will be 3:00 to 7:30 pm.  Weekend and holiday hours will be 10:30 to 7:30 pm.  Early Bird Adult Swim on weekdays from 6:30 -8:30 am (including Memorial Day) remains unchanged.

Upcoming Food & Music Events

Bannockburn Pool is famous for its gourmet food offerings.  Most of these small, family-owned businesses are still recovering from huge financial losses during Covid.  Please consider ordering from them on their visits, rather than bringing your own, to make it worth their while. Check the calendar for the upcoming food events in the weeks ahead.

Friday, August 26

Cosmic Moonsoon in the Lot 5:30 – 7:30 pm

Come out and listen to two of our former pool presidents’ (Wills and Crist) band!  Cosmic Moonsoon hails from Bannockburn and the Cabin John community.  Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Lance Crist is joined by Bill Thomas on lead guitar, Peppin Thomas on drums, and John Wills on bass.  Enjoy a night of classic rock and beyond!

Pho Wheels 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Pho Wheels is back by popular demand! Order online here.  They can take walk up orders but pre-ordering advised.  Pho Wheels offers great Vietnamese food including banh mi sandwiches, pho soup, eggrolls, Vietnamese inspired tacos and Viet iced coffee and Thai iced tea. This unique Vietnamese comfort food inspired food truck is a family business originally from Houston, Texas, but now roaming the DMV bringing traditional recipes with modern interpretations. Vietnamese food has many influences and PhoWheels cooking is infused with unusual spice combinations, textures and flavors that reflect these influences. As you slurp the beefy broth of a bowl of Pho or bite into a Vietnamese taco or a banh mi sandwich, you will taste the flavor explosion of cilantro, pickled carrots, sriracha and garlic. You will understand the crossroads of Vietnamese cuisine and you will say “YUM! I want more of this food!”

General MacArthur & The Boulevards in the Lot 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

General MacArthur & The Boulevards, a beloved and local Bannockburn Rock n Blues Band will be playing for community to celebrate  summer music in the ‘hood!  Richard Aitken, Mark Dubester, Don Fitzgerald, Andy Garrett, Amr Khani, Pam Toole & Aaron Zitner are looking forward to celebrating with the community!

Little Lady Grill 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Little Lady Grill Meet Glenda and The Little Lady Latin Fusion Grill Truck who are returning by popular demand.  Check out her menu options here (scroll down to the bottom of the page).  You can call or text your order in advance with your pick up time at 703-475-4576.   Pre-orders preferred, but walk ups are also welcome. This is a family owned and family oriented business that specializes in an all grilled menu that features healthy food of the finest quality. Glenda, an El Salvadorian-American has been grilling her entire life, learning from her father, who would fire up the grill in the backyard every evening. Glenda and her husband grill throughout all four seasons and particularly like grilling steaks in the winter! Grilling a lovely rib-eye steak, from her father’s recipe is Glenda’s favorite item to cook, but she prefers to eat a fabulous piece of grilled chicken. (Her best sellers are grilled chicken, shrimp, salmon and carne asada).  Glenda uses unique spice combinations, fresh herbs and family recipes to bring you unforgettable platters, salads and sandwiches of the best grilled food around town! Please note, Glena will text you when your order is ready for pick up.  All of her offerings are grilled on the truck to maximize taste and freshness.  She may be a few minutes late but be assured your order will come out perfectly prepared.

Most of the parking lot will be closed during these concerts so please park on nearby residential streets and walk down, or better yet walk or bike!

Tuesday, Aug 30 Chef Majed Syrian Restaurant Delivery @ 6:00 pm

Menu and online ordering here. Ordering deadline noon same day as delivery. Chef Majed is the American dream of Majed Abdulraheem who came to Maryland as a Syrian refugee in early 2017.  But his dream does not begin there, it begins in his mother’s kitchen where he learned her secret recipes, her spice combinations, her dollops of olive oil and pomegranate syrup.  The story continues in formal culinary school training in Homs, Syria, then work in a four star French and Mediterranean restaurant. Fleeing Syria at the beginning of the war, Majed lived and cooked in Jordan for three years waiting to immigrate. Only in Maryland for a short while, Majed found a full time job with Foodhini, a dinner delivery start-up and was their #1 chef for three years. Majed left Foodhini in December 2019 to start his own food delivery/catering business, Chef Majed, and he is happy to cook for you from Union Kitchen, DC for this special .

Save the Date – Last Raft Night of the Season September 3 6:00 – 6:45 pm

Grab the zaniest raft you can get your hands on and have your kids join us on Saturday, September 3 for our last Raft Night of the season.
