The Week Ahead – July 29

Dear pool members,

After the high temperatures, high humidity and crazy storms of this week, it seems that we are headed into a milder stretch. The weather forecasters are promising us lower humidity, lower risks of rain and even lower temperatures.

Should be a fun week at the pool! Please read below for the updates!

Friday, July 29 6:30pm–7:30pm: A Happy Hour to Welcome Late Season members

Please join us for a happy hour for new full and late season members at 6:30 pm near the grill area.  Some of your volunteer board members will be in attendance, and it is a wonderful opportunity to meet more of the Bannockburn pool community!

Pepe/José Andrés’ Food Truck – Sat. July 30 4-8 pm: This truck is back by popular demand.   Menu options and pre-ordering can be found here.  They can also accommodate walk ups but pre-ordering advised since they often sell out.

With fresh-baked bread, “flauta” (long and thin like a flute bread), each sandwich is made fresh on the spot, and includes flavorful selections such as the butifarra “burger” (fresh pork, roasted peppers and alioli), pollo frito (fried chicken), Berenjena Bocata (Vegetarian), jamón serrano y queso manchego (the classic Spanish ham and cheese), Barcelona Futbol Club and many more.   They’ll also have their signature tomato gazpacho  as well as tapas choices such as Patastas Bravas, bacon wrapped dates and more.  For dessert don’t forget their signature flan!

Shouk – Vegan Mediterranean Restaurant Pool & Hood Delivery, Sunday, July 31, 5:30 – 6:00 pm. This wonderful restaurant’s neighborhood drop is also back by popular demand! They are taking orders here (choose Hood Drop/ Bannockburn Pool) or on their app until 4:00 pm day of delivery.

Pho Wheels Food Truck – Sat. Aug 6, 4-8 pm: Pho Wheels is back by popular demand! Order online here, please be careful to select the correct location (6315 Laverock) and time for when your order should be ready.

Pho Wheels offers great Vietnamese food including banh mi sandwiches, pho soup, eggrolls, Vietnamese inspired tacos and Viet iced coffee and Thai iced tea. They can take walk-ups but pre-ordering is advised. This unique Vietnamese comfort food inspired food truck is a family business originally from Houston, Texas, but now roaming the DMV bringing traditional recipes with modern interpretations. Vietnamese food has many influences and PhoWheels cooking is infused with unusual spice combinations, textures and flavors that reflect these influences. As you slurp the beefy broth of a bowl of Pho or bite into a Vietnamese taco or a banh mi sandwich, you will taste the flavor explosion of cilantro, pickled carrots, sriracha and garlic. You will understand the crossroads of Vietnamese cuisine and you will say “YUM! I want more of this food!”  Pho Wheels looks “forward” to seeing you soon.

Save the Date – Next Raft Night Saturday, Aug 6 6:00 – 6:45 pm:  This much loved Bannockburn tradition is back!  Get your zaniest, craziest rafts and float and giggle to your heart’s content.  Bring friends (make sure to buy guest passes in advance please). Electric pumps are highly recommended!

Reminder: Extended Hours on Weekends

Based on feedback from our members, we have extended our closing time on weekends (Friday – Sunday) to 8:30 pm, instead of 8:00 pm for at least the next two weeks while it still remains light out.  Guards will blow the whistle at 8:15 pm to allow members to begin packing up their belongings for a prompt 8:30 pm exit. Enjoy the extended time!
